AMUR CHERRY Prunus maackii The Amur Cherry is a fast growing small tree that is noted for its bright golden orange coloured exfoliating bark. Excellent winter accent. Although fully hardy this tree is rarely seen in residential yards. Small tree: Height 6m (20ft). Foliage: Foliage is a softer green than most trees--adds interest to the landscape. Flowers: Creamy white colour and very profuse. Fruit: The small black astringent cherry has a wonderful aroma when crushed. It is of little value except to wildlife. Fall Colour: Light yellow. Comments: Avoid planting this tree close to patios and decks as the fruit stains bright purple. In lawn and garden areas this is not a problem. | |||||||||
