PRICKLY ROSE Rosa
acicularis This plant is the floral emblem of the Province of Alberta. It has great nostalgic appeal for many people. For that hot dry place where nothing wants to grow try the Prickly Rose. Be careful though because it has a tendency to sucker Shrub: Height 1m (3ft). Foliage: Fine textured compound leaves with 5 to 7 leaflets per leaf. Flowers: Single, deep pink in colour. Can be very abundant. Fruit: Bright red pear shaped hips that can be quite showy in themselves. Persist into winter. Comments: In the right place this plant can be a great asset. Excellent for naturalizing or wildlife plantings. | |||||||||
