Prairie Plum
Prunus salicina x P. nigra 'Prairie'
Fruit:
-4.5 cm, slightly pointed;
-matures in early September;
-flesh is yellow, sweet, juicy, mellow;
-semi-freestone;
-skin is dark red with heavy bluish bloom, medium thick, tough, slightly
astringent but not sour;
-very good for fresh eating and very good for freezing;
-very good for jam and jelly and fair for canning.
Pollination: There is considerable confusion about Hybrid plum requirements but it is known that the native Canada Plum is an effective pollinizer.
Tree: Upright, spreading, moderately vigorous, and very productive.
Hardy: To zone 2.
