RED STEMMED WILLOW Salix
alba 'Chermesina'
The Red Stemmed Willow is valued for its red coloured young twigs and branches. It is a small tree which does not spread as wide as the Laurel Leaf or the Golden Willow. Shade tree: Height 10m (30ft). Foliage: Strap shaped leaves are silvery in colour. Leaves tend to be carried in billowing masses. Fall Colour: Yellow but not outstanding. Comments: This is a fast growing tree which is more upright than most willows but not as large. Like all willows, it likes lots of moisture but can live with less than most. This is the only willow that is commonly used as a shelterbelt tree. | |||||||||
