USSURIAN PEAR Pyrus ussuriensis The Ussurian Pear is a hardy small tree which is prized for its flowers and fall colour. The branches are well armed with stout sharp spines. Small tree: Height 6m (20ft). Foliage: Bright green, course, and dense. Flowers: White, abundant, and very showy. Usually trees do not bloom fully until about ten years old. Fruit: Small pears. Although they can be used for jellies and sauces, they are too gritty and hard for out of hand eating. Fall Colour: Outstanding. brilliant yellow. Comments: This tree is used as the under stock for the hardy eating pears, but it is also a great addition to any landscape requiring a small flowering tree. | |||||||||
