SUTHERLAND GOLDEN ELDER Sambucus racemosa 'Sutherland Golden' The Sutherland Gold Elder is an attractive fast growing shrub of easy culture. Elders are reputed to bring good luck to members of the household. According to folklore an elder will never be struck by lightening. Medium Shrub: Height 2 m (5 to 7ft). Foliage: Bright golden, finely dissected leaves provide interesting texture. Flowers: Although the flowers are small, they are born in large creamy white clusters. Fruit: Small red berry that is not significant. Comments: The golden elder is the brightest of all the yellow/gold coloured foliage plants.
