ALPINE CURRANT Ribes alpinum The Alpine Currant is a dense ball shaped shrub that is great for hedges in full sun or shade. Unsheared, it will reach a height of about five feet. If sheared at two to four feet it will make a very dense formal hedge. Medium Shrub: Height 1.5m (4ft). Foliage: Fine to medium textured dark green lobed leaves. On of the first shrubs to green up in the spring. Flowers: Not significant. Fruit: Not significant. Comments: Although this shrub is a member of the currant family, it is soft and friendly--not spiny. Very quick to green up in the spring. It does well in shady areas so long as there is some air movement. Deserves widespread use. | |||||||||
