CISTENA CHERRY Prunus x cistena
Also called: PURPLE LEAVED SANDCHERRY
This plant is the only shrub with consistent purple leaves. The striking bright purple colour of the new leaves add interest to any bed or border. Although it has a tendency to be tender and to freeze back over winter it is highly valued because it is the tender new growth that displays the best colour.
Shrub: Height 1 to 1.5m (3 to 5ft).
Foliage: Medium textured bright purple.
Flowers: Very profuse light pink flowers contrast well with the purple foliage.
Fall Colour: Red, purple.
Comments: Although this shrub is somewhat tender, it is very commonly grown because of its highly desirable foliage colour.
