NANKING CHERRY Prunus tomentosa The Nanking Cherry is a great flowering shrub which offers the added bonus of tasty fruit which is also good for preserves. Medium Shrub: Height 2m (6ft). Foliage: Medium textured, deeply veined, dull green. Flowers: White to pink, born in late May, early June. Fruit: A bright red cherry of one half inch or more diameter. Very good for out of hand eating. Comments: One of these shrubs along the back fence will be a hit with everyone when the fruit ripens. It is a reliable hardy plant. It will yield fruit more consistently if planted close to another late flowering plant like the Western Sandcherry. | |||||||||
