WESTERN SANDCHERRY Prunus besseyi The Western Sandcherry is a small spreading shrub which suckers a little bit. It is great for wildlife plantings and as a pollinator for all the late flowering plums and the Nanking Cherry. As an ornamental for the front yard, it is not great. Medium Shrub: Height 1m (3 to 4ft). Foliage: Medium textured light green. Flowers: White, not conspicuous. Fruit: A black cherry which is quite small and quite astringent, edible but not especially good or useful except as food for wildlife. Comments: Although great for wildlife plantings, the main use for this plant is as a pollinator. | |||||||||
