CHERRY PRINSEPIA Prinsepia sinensis This versatile shrub can provide a unique accent, trims nicely into a formal hedge, makes an excellent barrier plant and has delicious fruit for fresh eating or jelly. It is one of the first shrubs to leaf out in the spring. Fruit Bearing Shrub: Height to 1.5 m (4 to 5 ft.) with graceful arching branches. Foliage: Bright green, medium texture. Leaves are long, narrow, and shiny. Flowers: Not conspicuous, small, yellow. Fruit: Bright red cherry like drupes. Eat them fresh or use them for jelly. Comments: Its dense growth and spiny nature make this an excellent barrier plant. Its small size fits well with most urban landscapes. It is fully hardy. Free of insect pests. | |||||||||
