THIESSEN SASKATOON The familiar Saskatoon Berry! Tall upright shrub known for its flowering habit and unique fruit. Great for out of hand eating, pies, and preserves. Fruit Tree: Height 4m (13ft). Foliage: Dark green, canopy is frequently somewhat open. Flowers: Showy white born in mid May. This is the first common shrub in the wild to flower. Fruit: The largest fruit of all the Saskatoon berries. Comments: Thrives in almost any well drained soil. This large fruit variety was discovered close to Langham, Saskatchewan and first introduced by George Krahn of Lakeshore Tree Farms. It does sucker, but not as freely as Smokey.
