Opata Cherry Plum
Prunus besseyi x P. salicina 'Opata'
Fruit:
-3 cm (1 in), round oval;
-matures in late August;
-flesh is yellowish green, medium firm,
juicy, sweet, and acid;
-clingstone;
-skin is light green overlaid with reddish purple, medium
thick but tender;
-good for fresh eating;
-good for canning and good for jam;
-fair for pies.
Pollination: Plant with other Cherry Plums such as Manor, Convoy, and Beta or Western Sandcherry.
Tree: Spreading, somewhat rounded and very productive.
Hardy: To zone 2a.
Comments: Introduced by the Brookings State Experimental Farm in South Dakota in 1908.
