Dandy Plum
Prunus nigra 'Dandy'
Fruit:
-3 to 4 cm, oval;
-matures in late August;
-flesh is yellow, mild, and juicy;
-clingstone;
-skin is yellow blushed with bright red and dotted yellow, thin, tender,
but
astringent and slightly bitter;
-fair for fresh eating;
-good for canning;
-excellent for jam.
Pollination: Early blooming. Probably many good pollinizers but the native Canada Plum is certain to be effective.
Tree: Upright, spreading, moderately vigorous.
Hardy: To zone 2a.
Comments: Plant with other early flowering plums such as Brookgold and Ptitson #12. This is an excellent pollinator.
