Beta Cherry Plum
Prunus besseyi x P. salicina 'Beta'
Fruit:
-2.5 to 3 cm (1in), round oval;
-matures in late August;
-flesh is green, moderately firm, and mildly acid -freestone;
-skin is reddish blue to dark purple, thin, tough, and slightly astringent;
-good for fresh eating;
-excellent for canning;
-good for jam.
Pollination: Plant with other cherry plums such as Manor, Opata, and Convoy or Western Sandcherry.
Tree: Low sprawling bush.
Hardy: To zone 2a.
Comments: Introduced by C.F. Paterson at the University of Saskatchewan in 1960.
