LILIES Lilium x hybrida The Lily is the undisputed queen of all flowering perennials. Plants range from one foot spreading types to gorgeous four foot accent plants. Colours range from whites and muted pastels to blazing pinks and reds. Perennial: Height 30-120cm (1-4ft). Foliage: Individual stems with whorls of leaves. Most lilies have neat attractive foliage even when not in bloom. Flowers: Five petals. Most lilies make good long lasting cut flowers. Comments: Traditionally lilies are transplanted as bulbs in the fall. They like well drained soil and are very drought resistant. Disease problems are usually the direct result of over watering or over fertilising. Many commercial lily growers use no irrigation at all. LILY INDEX PLANT FINDER PERENNIAL INDEX HOME | |||||||||
