LITTLE LEAF LINDEN Tilia cordata Also called: BASSWOOD, LITTLE LEAF BASSWOOD This is a slow growing tree that is highly prized for its neatness. It maintains a compact pyramidal form which opens somewhat with age. Because of its slow growth habit, it is truly a tree for posterity. Shade tree: Height 12m (40ft). Foliage: Dark green leaves with heart shaped bases. Flowers: Fragrant white to yellow flowers are born in pendulous cymes. Fruit: Small and inconspicuous, the size of a small berry. Fall Colour: Clear yellow. Comments: Because this tree is very hardy, almost free of insect pests, very long lived, and of neat compact shape, it is deserving of much wider use. Unfortunately it is seldom seen. | |||||||||
