INDEX: THE TART (SOUR) CHERRIES
Tart (Sour) Cherries. A
world class introduction by the University of Saskatchewan. The
Romance Series were released in 2004. They were the result of a
breeding program that began in the 1940's with our own Dr. Les Kerr.
These amazing plants are quickly finding a place in back yard gardens and
commercial orchards throughout the Prairie Region. |
| Landscape
Plants: As
landscape plants, the cherries are unequalled. Use them
carefully in the front yard or along the lane because they will attract
quests that may not always be welcome! |
First Hardy Tart Cherries
Romance Series
- Valentine
- Juliet
- Romeo
- Crimson Passion
- Cupid
|
| Cultural Requirements:
All the cherries are of easy culture and, with the
exception of Evans, all appear to be perfectly hardy in Zone
2. |
| Plants From Seed
are not recommended. Plants from seed lack uniformity. They
frequently have hardiness issues, poor productivity, and uneven fruit
ripening. Always select plants that have been grown from cuttings or
tissue culture. |
| At the LITTLE TREE NURSERY, we have been
offering the Cherry Plants since they were first introduced.
However, we have only been propagating them for only 2 years. It's
been a learning process. Presently, we have all the varieties in 1
gallon pots. In 2012, they will be priced at $22.95 each with a
discount for orders of 10 or more.
Starting in 2013, we plan to have them available as liners in 2.5 inch
pots. Having already spent one winter outside, these plants will be
ideal for field planting. If you are planning a cherry orchard, we
would be delighted to provide you with more
details. |
