CHIPMAN CRABAPPLE Fruit: -Small, about 1.25 inches;-green skin washed with red on the sunny side; -flesh is creamy white, crisp, juicy, and tart; -great for fresh eating, lunch boxes, and excellent for canning whole; -stores for 6 weeks; -ripens in Early September. Tree: Round headed, semi-dwarf tree with a good branching habit.Comments: The Chipman Crabapple is a great small crabapple for fresh eating, lunch boxes, and canning. Unlike many of the smaller crabs it maintains its crisp texture both on the tree and in storage. Although astringent, it is not sour once ripe. The best for canning whole. | |||||||||
